Ashgrove Pedigree Herefords
In 2002 we established our own herd of Pedigree Horned Hereford cattle, a local breed native to the county, which thrives on our long-established rich pasture.
Unlike imported continental breeds, we do not need to provide extra feed, and so the diet of our herd is only supplemented in winter by hay from our own fields. Traditional managed in this way, Hereford cattle produce the finest beef for which ‘Olde England’ was justifiably famous.
Our herd has been founded on Westwood bloodlines, and we would like to thank Clive Davis for all his help and advice. Our Westwood foundation cows are supplemented by Longville heifers and we look forward to a 2006 crop of calves sired by Longville Waratah. Currently we have for sale strong, dark, well marked young bulls by the very successful sire Dieulacresse Ralph, seen in the top picture who also features on the label of our Orchard Bull bottled cider. Group reared at grass these young bulls have good confirmation and temperament and offer an excellent prospect as future herd sires.
In 2005 we started showing the best animals in our herd, and we were delighted to make a prize-winning start in a debut year. The highlight was 2nd prize at the National Horded Hereford Cattle show for our bull, Ashgrove Arthur.
Visitors are always welcome to view our herd and sample our range of traditional ciders !
